Dopis do DOS-WK: Korfbalové soutěže v ČR, naše týmy a dotazy

Dear Marcel,

in SK RG Prostejov, we are very glad that DOS-WK and its members are our friends now. We believe in bright future of our friendship and cooperation. And as you said in your e-mail, let's start with regular communication.

Like you, I will start with introduction of our club. SK RG Prostejov is Czech korfball club from Prostejov and we have approx. 30-40 active members. If you are asking about Prostejov as a city, it has just about 50 000 inhabitants and is located 20 kilometers to the south from Olomouc in the central Moravia (eastern part of the Czech Republic). Just search for 'Prostejov, Czech Republic' on maps.google.com.

In the next season of 2007/2008, our club will have 2 senior teams (>19), 1 junior team (15-19) and 1 youth team (players of age 12-15). Our first senior team plays in the highest league – Czech Korfball Extraleague, juniors play in the highest junior league as well.

Prostejov's Extraleague senior team finished on the 5th place in the last season. Because Extraleague has 6 teams, we played delegation/relegation matches with Decin from the lower league and we managed to beat them twice and thus saved Extraleague for Prostejov.

Juniors finished on the 4th place after losing semifinal match and then even the match for the 3rd place. Juniors were always the most successful teams of our club, in 1995 they were the junior champions.

We also have one international referee – Martin Uherka (level B), who recently refereed a Four Nation Tournament in Luxembourg, Monuta Youth World Cup (he refereed even the finals) and also some matches of lower korfball league in Netherlands. As a referee, he will also take part in World Korfball Championship in Brno 2007.

The structure of competitions in the Czech Republic is much more simpler then in the Netherlands. We have two senior leagues (Extraleague and 1st Korfball League), two junior leagues (Junior Extraleague and 1st Junior Korfball League), one league for players of age 12-15, one for age 10-12 and one for players under 10 years. All these competitions are indoor and there is no outdoor league. But there are some well established outdoor tournaments called Czech Cup (one for seniors and juniors and one for age

The last Czech Cup, also called Maxikorfbal, was held during the weekend of June 30th and July 1st. Our first team finished on the 3rd place when we lost 9-10 to Ceske Budejovice in the semifinals (Ceske Budejovice won the tournament, it is current Czech champion and got bronze medal from the last EuropaCup). In the Under-15 Czech Cup, our team played well but finally finished on the 4th place.

In your e-mail you asked for some questions, so here they are. One of our players asked “How did Samantha manage to score 105 goals? She must have trained twice a day all week!” :-) I would generalize the question and ask how does look korfball live in your club. What are the activities one can experience as a member or player of your club? How many trainings do teams have? How often do teams play matches? What are social activities in your club? How do members help the club?

It may be too many questions but I'm just curious how does your club function. We had a reorganization of our club recently and I would like to inspire.

Regards,

Jan
