Dear Marcel,

We are in the middle of preparations for a new season as well. We have started with trainings in the first week of August and we will continue till the beginning of September, when we are going to have two weekend korfball training camps.

On trainings we mostly focus on technical skills, combinations and play as players work on their condition individually (but under the trainer's supervision).

Korfball season starts in the middle of September and ends in April with the finals. We usually play every two or three weeks but we have two matches in one day. This is true for both senior and junior Extraleagues. U16 and lower junior and senior leagues use the system of small tournaments, so that teams play several matches with several opponents in one day.

Our first senior team – SK RG Prostejov “A” – will try to get to the play-off in the Czech highest league for the first time in our history. SK RG Prostejov “B”, the second senior team, will mostly function as a reserve for the first team and also as a chance for other senior players to play matches.

U19 team is almost completely new because the players got older than 19 years and moved to the seniors, new players come from the former U16 team. Team's goal is to get to the semifinals but it will be very hard as these young players will meet Czech elite U19 teams.

We need to build a new U16 team and we wait for the start of a school year (1st week of September) to get new children. We will try to gather kids in the age of 11 to 13 years. This new team will have approximately one month to learn the basics of korfball before it will play its first match. The goal is simple: learn kids some korfball, make korfball their favourite sport and build the team.

During the season, our teams usually train once a week, each training is 90 minutes. We know one training a week is less then optimal and hopefully we will succeed in arranging another one. It is hard though as we currently usually use only one sports hall and its schedule is almost full. Using other halls comes with logistics problem as we have to move korfs because we do not have enough of them for two sport halls.

To answer your question about korfball players in the Czech Republic, there are about 2 000 members of korfball clubs. I can't say the exact number of all players but in the last season there were approximately 700 players written on team lists and ready to play in leagues. There are some 20+ korfball clubs here.

If you are interested how Czech korfball looks like, I've uploaded a video of one of our matches from the last season to Google Video. Follow this address: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6006784670767280745. It's a match against later Czech vice-champion – Brno (in red/white). Our club colours are yellow/black. Unfortunately both teams scored only a few goals, in Czech Korfball Extraleague an usual team score is 15 goals in one match.

Besides trainings and matches, what other activities can a member of your club experience? How is cultural/social life in DOS-WK? And what are the advantages of being a member of DOS-WK?

Regards,

Jan
